Overview

garms is a fashion application designed to function both as a service that allows users to buy and sell clothing and as an informative tool that teaches users about how their data is being used. This iteration of garms has three data privacy components, to inform, allow for consent, and allow for control.

Problem

Currently, data privacy has been a hot topic amongst consumers as they’ve become aware of how applications are collecting data from them. The issue resides in dark patterns and the applications’ lack of transparency on how they collect and use data.

Solution

garms offers a unique solution to this issue as it embraces being fully transparent with consumers. Data collection and interpretation is a necessary feature to have within apps to provide users with the best experience; however, most data collection tactics are unethical. garms will provide users with a consent form to allow for their data to be collected, clearly explain how the data is being used, and show users how to turn off data collection features to customize their experience.
